After the completion of an accredited training program, phlebotomy technicians can sit for certification exams administered by accredited certifying bodies such as the American Society for Clinical pathology (ASCP), the American Society for Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT),the American association of Medical Personnel and the American Medical Technologists.

Once you pass the certification exams, these bodies award the title of Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).

The requirements for certification will vary between different certification bodies.

Once certified, a phlebotomy technician must continue their education to stay up to date and maintain their certification.

Phlebotomy TechnicianHowever, with the exception of California and Louisiana, phlebotomy certification is not a requirement and the majority of employers only require successful completion of a phlebotomy course.
