Medical Assistant Certification Requirements:
Students who graduated in a medical assisting course should have done so on an accredited learning institution that is recognized by the CAAHEP or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health or by ABHES of The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.
A candidate who has previously taken the CMA exam and already has CMA credentials is eligible.
CMA exam must also be taken every five years so that you will be updated on the professional and current knowledge in medical assisting.
The Certifying Exam:
As soon as you establish that you are eligible to apply for certification, you can go ahead and take the exam. As a member of the ABHES or CAAHEP, you’ll need to pay $125.
Non-members need to pay $250 as an enrollment fee. These are non-transferable and non-refundable fees. Payment modes are credit cards, debit cards, money order, institution card and cashier’s checks only. No personal checks are allowed.
Make sure that you receive the scheduling permit three weeks before your scheduled exam.
Check all the information on your permit as it should contain the date of the exam and the Pro-metric Test center that you need to go to.
Devote your remaining review days to learning the syllabus. Procure the latest medical assisting publications. You can also do AAMA practice tests in order to enhance your testing skills.
